A couple of months ago I considered attending Web Essentials 2005 but decided that like most students, I just can’t afford it. I’ve since decided that this is something that I really need to attend, and it’s in just under two months. WE05 will be a great chance to make some great contacts in the web-standards world and do some serious learning from the greats who will be presenting.
For those who aren’t familiar with WE05, it will be one of the biggest gatherings of webstandards developers of the year. Presentations are being given by the likes of Molly Holzschlag, Eric Meyer, Tantek Çelik, Cameron Adams and many more. Events like WE05 are usually held in the Northern Hemisphere far beyond my reach. WE05 however will be just across the Tasman Sea in Sydney. (map)
How am I going to get there? The only way I can see is for me to do something that to be honest I don’t really like doing, Beg and Borrow. I haven’t nailed down a flight or somewhere to sleep yet but all up I’m looking at about NZ$1700 (roughly US$1200 or Euro$950) for the whole trip.
If you would like to donate you can click the link button in the top-right corner of this page or any other major page on this site. Donations will be securely handled through Paypal, if you would like to donate via an alternative to Paypal please email me directly. All donations will be greatly appreciated more than you can imagine and I will personally email a thank you to any who does donate. Obviously if I don’t make it, all donations will be refunded in full, but let’s think positively.
While at WE05 I’m going to miss:
- My 20th birthday (see contact page)
- 1.5 days of work
- 3 days of uni (thankfully no labs though)
I’ll keep you all updated with how things are going.
